June 2008

Hillary should be proud of herself as the first woman to run for President who almost got the nomination. She made some mistakes and I believe she should now take a long vacation with her family. I am not happy about the outcome of this race and I still believe that women will lead us to peace and equality. I take solace in the fact that she won the popular vote -18 million citizens voted for her. I believe the process of our voting structure of yesterday does not serve us today. Who are these super delegates?
Ellen Goodman (one of my favorite feminist journalists) wrote a column last week fantasizing about what Obama should say to the women of America. This is just a brief quote of her column:
“I know that poverty most often wears a female face. But, I don’t just hear you. I will promise you. Childcare will not be an afterthought, but as basic as school. Family medical leave will be, at long last, expanded to every worker. And, one of the most important promises, “an Obama administration will trust American women to make their own decisions about childbearing. We will not say that the government knows best. And we will have a women as decision makers at every table, every level. I don’t make these promises because they fit on the platter of ‘women’s issues”.” Most men share these concerns and I am one of them.” This is what women want to hear during the next election cycle to November.
I am voting for change this year. Let’s get rid of No Child Left Behind, it was created to bring down our public school system and it has destroyed our country’s education system. I believe we should build more schools not churches. Stop the War! This was a coined phrase during the Vietnam War and is holds true today. We should focus on NO WAR, affordable education, healthcare, veteran care, childcare and care of our senior citizens. Our current government is corrupt and this administration has opened the doors to foreign investors and corporations who are destroying our economy and polluting the planet. How do we stop the insanity? How do we let them know we are sick and tired of war and corruption from the men who are running the asylum? WE VOTE IN NOVEMBER!
This is Gay & Lesbian Pride month and the California Supreme Court has decided that we can marry. June 17th is the first day you can buy a marriage license at Indio City Hall for $68. If you decide you want to get married and accept the responsibility of that union go for it! But, keep in mind marriage is not very popular for longevity. But, it is now a choice and that’s what’s important to me, choice!
Happy Gay Pride Month!
